Each LD has their own style and lay-out, a panel of professional lighting designers will discuss the how and why of their lay-out and style. They have each been given the same production for the construction of their magic sheet and will discuss why they use a particular style and layout and how it works for them.

Most airbrushes are designed to allow any liquid including make-up to flow through them. Discuss the different types of airbrushes, compressors and paints available for make-up. Make-up artists, use the airbrush just as a sponge or a brush, one is not better than the other it is just different. See a demonstration of how to create different effects in a complete demonstration of a character make-up, using the airbrush. In addition, how to select and maintained the airbrush will also be discussed.

The traditional theatre form of Beijing opera, evolving within this rank-and clothing-conscious context, logically absorbed a design language that emphasized the use of clothing to identify characters onstage. Through a complex system of visual cues from the form, color and surface designs, the costumes of the Beijing opera communicate the characters to the audience.

| Transitioning USITT's Organization from an Operations Model to a Governance Model with an Executive Director |

In June of 2008 McCarthy Arts Consulting submitted the organizational assessment of USITT that had been contracted by the board. Soon after the presentation of the report, the board began to take steps to implement the recommended actions included in it. A Transition Advisory Team was created and charged with keeping the process moving ahead. Much work has been done in that short span of time and this session is an opportunity to share the progress and discuss with the membership the bright future of USITT. Doug Stannard, President of the Louisiana Crafts Guild, and Michael J. Peitz, Executive Director of EdTA, will talk about their organization's successful transition process that included the addition of an Executive Director.

LIVE in downtown Los Angeles has been designed to combine the features and seating capacity of sports arenas with the technical capabilities of first-class theatre/performing arts centers. The 250,000 square foot Nokia Theatre opened in late 2007 with a 14,000 square foot stage and 7,100 seats to host concerts, as well as televised award shows, such as the American Music Awards and the Emmy Awards. USITT's Fellows, the men and women recognized for life for their truly outstanding contributions to the theatre and the work of the Institute, have selected Sonny Sonnenfeld to present "Yes, But That Was Yesterday ... What About Today?", the 2009 Fellows address.
Sonny will reflect on both the history of the stage lighting industry speaking as one of the "pioneers" who developed, marketed and sold our 20th century lighting technology. He will also elaborate on the state of the lighting industry today and comment on its future potential and challenges.
After the Address, the Fellows will introduce and induct members who have been chosen as new Fellows of the Institute, names not revealed until the ceremony. After honoring members for their long-time commitment to the profession, the event concludes by honoring younger practitioners just starting their careers when the USITT Awards for Young Designer & Technicians in the Performing Arts are presented.

Historically, it has been very hard to demonstrate what a theatre sound design has brought to a production after the show because that sound design is integral to the production. To play the sound cues divorced from the production cannot convey the subtle enhancement of a well crafted sound design.
In an attempt to recreate the audience experience after the event we have looked at many ways of capturing the production with the aim of showing the contribution of the sound design. In this session, we will examine and demonstrate a combination of video and binaural sound recording to recreate one audience members experience of a show with as accurate spatial audio information as possible, creating a "best case" faximile of the soundscape in the room.

Jules Fisher, subject of USITT's latest monograph and recipient of the Distinguished Achievement in Lighting Award for 2009, will discuss his extraordinary career as a lighting designer who creates illusions. He has created magical lighting for Broadway shows, film, concerts, and television for over 50 years. Mr. Fisher has received eight Tony Awards (and 12 more nominations), seven Drama Desk Awards, and an Emmy Award nomination for lighting the celebration of President Clinton's inaugural in 1993. He was inducted into the Theatre Hall of Fame in 2006, received the USITT Award in 1995, the Illuminating Engineering Society's Lighting Design Award in 1978 for Dancin', and the Henry Hewes Design Award in 1996 for Bring in 'Da Noise Bring in 'Da Funk. A reception for Mr. Fisher will follow immediately after the session.
